Our group's aim is to improve the local area of Glasshoughton and Redhill in order to make it a more pleasent environment in which to live in. We aim to do this holding regular meetings with residents and listening to their views, so that we can then address these issues with the appropriate authorities.
We have succeeded in securing £40,000 spending on improvements to our
Welfare, which was obtained via a recent housing development agreement,
and we are pressuring the WMDC into moving forward on a safe enhanced play
area. We have received £23,000 in funding from the landfill tax money of Waste Recycling Group, distributed by WREN for money towards the scheme.
This year (2005) we have succeeded for the third year running in obtaining
funding for Christmas Lights at Glasshoughton with a switch on event.
We have succeeded in getting a telephone kiosk removed by BT where anti-social behaviour (ASB) and drug dealing took place on a regular basis, and hope to tackle further issues of ASB.
We are looking at obtaining money for a youth team to attend our local centre on a weekly basis to enable youngsters to have somewhere to "hang out "at least once a week.
If any local residents would like to join our group, please leave your details on the website, and you will be made most welcome.
